We are seeking a motivated and experienced Development Engineer to join our Development Engineering team. This position plays a key role in supporting the sustainable development of the City by providing high-quality engineering advice, design assessment, approvals, and inspection services.
The Development Engineer will assess and advise on development proposals to ensure engineering outcomes meet the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, Council policies, Australian Standards, and the long-term needs of the community.

About the role:
Development Engineering
 - Provide professional engineering advice and assessment services for developments requiring planning permits.
- Review and assess technical documentation, including engineering design drawings for subdivisions, carparking, vehicle access, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Formulate and apply appropriate engineering conditions to planning permits.
- Liaise and negotiate with developers and consultants to achieve outcomes consistent with Council policies and standards.
- Review building permit applications to ensure compliance with approved engineering designs and permit conditions.
- Attend Glenorchy Planning Authority meetings and provide engineering advice as required.
Engineering Works
 - Oversee and inspect civil works constructed by private sector developers, ensuring compliance with approved plans and standards.
- Inspect road and stormwater infrastructure, driveways, car parking and manoeuvring areas.
- Assess driveway crossover applications and conduct pre- and post-pour inspections.
What you’ll bring to the role:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
 - A degree in Civil Engineering.
- Experience in a development engineering role and/or in the design and construction of public road and/or stormwater assets.
- A strong commitment to quality customer service, fostering a culture of service excellence.
- Knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and construction practices relating to road and stormwater assets.
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to recommend practical and effective solutions.
- The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Position details:
 - full-time (76 hours fortnight).
- 9-day fortnight because life happens outside of work too.
